Southern Sulawesi, in particular, was made famous by Torajan ethnic group. Residing in a remote area up on mountainous region in Tana Toraja regency, the indigenous group with originally animism belief has preserved ancient funerary customs known to be the most complex funeral traditions in the world Aluk Todolo (Way of Ancestors).

What you will do

Day 1  Arrival  Makassar – Toraja  (L/D)

Begin your trip with the first flight of the day to Makassar, the provincial capital of South Sulawesi. Meet your assigned guide upon arrival, then it is a scenic  drive to reach Toraja with a lunch stop in Parepare. In Puncak Lakawang, a coffee stop will provide you opportunity to sample the local coffee while taking in the spectacular panoramic landscape. Arrive in Rantepao in early evening, then directly to your hotel of choice for overnight stay with dinner provided.

Day 2 Toraja Highlands  (B/L/D)

A town and capital of North Toraja regency, Rantepao is known for the cultural center of Toraja ethnic group with noteworthy buildings built with designs using traditional elements of the Toraja culture with typical roof. After breakfast, pick up at the hotel lobby for an excursion to discover the spirit of the land and the culture of Toraja. Drive to Lemo to observe a cliff displaying ancestral sculptures and the hanging graves. Continue to Londa for its ancient ceremonial burial place and proceed to Kete Kesu village to admire ‘Tongkonan’ traditional Torajan houses and local woodcarving workshop. Lunch is provided at a local restaurant. Transfer to your hotel in the afternoon, dinner served at the hotel. Overnight at a Standard hotel in Rantepao

Day 3  Toraja – Makassar  (B/L/D)

Enjoy breakfast at hotel and check out afterwards. Your guide will escort you back to Makassar with a lunch stop at Parepare. Check-in at your choice of hotel in Makassar and the evening is free at leisure.

Day 4  Makassar City tour – Departure Makassar  (B)

After breakfast, check out from the hotel. Your guide will pick you up at the lobby for a short sightseeing in Makassar. Visit the city’s most iconic landmark Fort Rotterdam, a 17th-century Dutch fort; and La Galigo Museum showcasing an array of exhibits including sailing boats, traditional musical instruments and ethnic costumes. Proceed to drive towards the old port of Paotere where Bugis sailing ships Phinisi are docked to observe the daily life at the port. Drive directly to Sultan Hasanuddin International airport for your onward journey with wonderful memories of Toraja Highlands.
