What to Expect

Beautiful green rice terraces, pounding surf, superb cuisine, spellbinding dance ceremonies and captivating nightlife: there are as many faces to Bali as there are names for the Hindu Gods who call this tropical island their home. Blissful shrines and temples can be seen at every turn and delicate offerings of food and flowers decorate the doorways. The sound of gamelan music and the percussive tapping of sculptors’ hammers float lazily on tropical air, scented with frangipani, jasmine and sweet sandalwood incense. Bali is quite simply a paradise on earth.

Sunsets in Bali set the ocean on fire, providing heavenly views as colourful as the cocktails that accompany them. For adventurers, the interior holds many secrets and treasures; jungle paths coil up volcano peaks and ancient rituals play out at night in the flickering light of village fires. For centuries, visitors to Bali have been captivated by the natural beauty and cultural richness of the island. In art, music, dance and drama, the Balinese have developed a distinctive culture all their own.

ITINERARY

Day 1   South Bali – Candidasa (Wednesday)  (L)

Starting With depart to the village of Batubulan, where you will enjoy a performance of the famous Balinese traditional Barong & Keris Dance, which represents the island’s everlasting fight between good and evil. Next, take a trip to some local artist villages and a local Batik factory. Here you can also see some excellent examples of local wood carvings being made. After lunch, proceed to visit Kerta Gosa; a relic of the 18th-century Klungkung kingdom, featuring fascinating classical wayang paintings on the ceiling. Next up, you’ll visit Tenganan. Often called “Bali Aga”, Tenganan is one of several ancient and interesting villages to be found in Bali.

Overnight in Candidasa.

Day 2    Candidasa – Ubud (Thursday)  (B/L)

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel, and then depart in the early morning to visit Tirta Gangga, a royal water garden and a favourite retreat in the regency of Karangasem, east Bali. It was built in 1946 during the reign of the late raja of Karangasem, Anak Agung Anglurah Ketut Karangasem (1887 – 1966). Tirta Gangga saw a series of restorations following the destructive hot showers of volcanic ash from the 1963 Mount Agung eruption. Next visit to Taman Ujung. From there, you will head to the Mother temple in Bali (known locally as “Besakih”), located at the foot of Mount Agung. After lunch continue driving to your hotel.

Overnight in Ubud

Day 3    Ubud – Lovina ( Friday)  (B/L)

Following breakfast at your hotel, visit Penglipuran traditional Balinese Village, where you can see quintessentially Balinese daily life in action. Thereafter, travel to Kintamani, where you’ll be met by a stunning and magnificent view of Batur volcano and the crater Lake. After lunch in Kintamani, continue driving on to Lovina, located near middle of Bali’s northern shore, Lovina is about as far as you can get from Kuta- both geographically and culturally. Lovina is laid back, quiet and unassuming, a haven in the seldom-visited corner of Bali that retains its sedate and secluded mystique. Lovina is actually the collective name for string of sleepy villages, from Kaliasem in the west to Tukad Mungga in the east. The coastline meanders through Anturan and Kalibukbuk, along with the town of Lovina itself, stitching together many relaxing spots along a thread of black volcanic sandy beaches.

Overnight in Lovina

Day 4    Lovina – South Bali ( Saturday)  (B/L)

Eat breakfast at your hotel, and then in the morning visit Gitgit waterfall. Afterwards, travel to Bedugul to see Lake Bratan with its floating temple called Ulun Danu. This holy place is dedicated to the goddess of water, who is said to dwell in the surrounding area. After lunch at a local restaurant, continue driving to Tanah Lot Temple, built on the top of a rock in the Indian Ocean just a few hundred meters offshore. Watch the waves crashing against the coastline and have a look around to find the best spot for a romantic sunset around 6 PM – Unforgettable!
